OVERVIEW.
Flight Runner is a racing game I’ve been developing, drawing inspiration from classics like Asphalt and Crash Team Racing. One particular mechanic that shaped my vision for this game is the drift/boost combo. In Crash Team Racing, hitting the sweet spot during a drift to trigger a larger boost was a key skill, and I always found it incredibly rewarding. It struck me as the perfect balance between challenge and mastery, and I wanted to bring that same thrill to Flight Runner.
Currently, I’m building a progression system that allows players to use in-game currency, earned by performing well in races, to upgrade their vehicles. Players can fine-tune their stats by upgrading parts, making their vehicles faster, more agile, or more competitive overall.
Another layer of strategy I’m implementing is a Fuel system. Racing will deplete fuel, but it will continuously refill over time. This introduces an element of resource management, encouraging players to plan their races carefully. Alongside this, I’m designing a Garage system, where players can tweak and upgrade their vehicle stats. This will be essential for progressing through the campaign mode, which challenges players to climb the ranks of a competitive racing league.
